Creeps on the street.

Ok so I really feel the need to talk about this because I just had a cringe attack about it and I feel horrible.
I'm pretty sure that you know what street harassment is, but in case you don't, let me enlighten you. According to this site where you can read more about it, the overview of street harassment is any action or comment between strangers in public places that is disrespectful, unwelcome, threatening and/or harassing and is motivated by gender or sexual orientation.

So until now I though that aw well, I've been lucky, nothing like that ever happened to me, right? Wrong. I thought about it last night and I kept like, re hearing the words that a random man with like 35 years old or something, said to me in the streets of Florence this summer. He was spanish, and he said basically what can be translated into "Damn girl" and he did the most suggestive look I've ever seen and basically my answer was "hey jerk it looks like you wanna get punched in the face" and my mom was all shocked because she said he was just complimenting me, and he gave me a shocked look as well. No. It was not a compliment, I felt really discomfortable, and he was much more older than me and it was disgusting, I still want to punch him in the face.

How is that acceptable? A thirty something year old man looking suggestively at a minor and it being interpreted as a "compliment"? I know that there are tons and tons of people who suffered from even worse stuff, I know that it'd be even more unpleasant if a guy yelled "nice tits" or something like that in the streets, but it still affects me a bit. And he was with his friends. What if I was alone right then? What if they decided that it'd be a great idea to follow me while I made my way home? I don't know, that still bugs me. Women should not have to worry about it, about being harassed sexually, verbally etc. Well, not only women, right? Men too, but it's more common this occurring to women. What if someone did this to the guys who harass people in public? Like, what if a gay men, when he passed by, said stuff like "lookin' good" and squeezed his ass? He'd me mortified and angry, probably. Gosh, they just... We are not meat. We are not "cute things" or some "hot stuff" that you can touch and then place on the wall, we are human beings, we're women, we're... I don't even know. I can't help but to think that people like this should not exist.
